The Mayan Civilization was at its apogee one thousand years ago. Belize was one of their most essential territories and, around its mystic rainforests, lays until now the sequel of its emblematic empire. Join us, and let's explore and document its tropical ecosystems and species around the ruins of the Mayas legacy, which today is also one of the most important wildlife corridors in Latin America.

Maya Forest

A three-hour drive from Belize City will take us to the largest tropical rainforest in Central America, an ideal place to enjoy Belize wildlife in nature hikes and vehicle safaris. This forest has natural and historical importance due to its buried Mayan temples.

HighlightsThe Maya forest has recorded more than 360 species of birds. Primates such spider and howler monkeys are relatively abundant in the area. Water ponds are home to red-eyed tree frogs, masked tree frogs, and a wide variety of amphibians and reptiles. They are all surrounded by millenary Mayan ruins and pyramids, which you can explore and walk by.

Pine Ridge Forest

Another three-hour drive will take us to our following location. This higher elevation area offers excellent views from fresh-water creeks and montane forests, where we will look for different wildlife.

Highlights
More than 70 species of reptiles and amphibians can be found here, including rattlesnakes, tree frogs, geckos, and salamanders. Mayan temples are within a short ride; most of them are very important to the local culture.
